How to setup Icebreakers, Persistent Menu, and Bot Triggers

Factoreal enables businesses to create icebreakers and a persistent menu within Instagram messaging / facebook messenger. Icebreakers are conversation starters that grab someone’s attention and open the door to chatting. These features enhance customer engagement, streamline communication, and ensure a consistent user experience, making it easier for businesses to connect with their audience and provide immediate access to essential information or actions.

Prerequisites

Before configuring icebreakers and a persistent menu on Instagram with Factoreal, ensure you have:

  1. Connected your Instagram business account within Factoreal. If not yet connected, refer connect-social-media-accounts guide.

  2. Created a conversational bot and assigned it to the Instagram channel. If the bot has not been created yet, please refer to the api-bot-setup guide.

Steps to configure Icebreakers:

Login to Factoreal click on Conversations → Social Conversation → Icebreakers

You will be directed to the Icebreakers configuration page, where you can select channel to configure Icebreakers.

Upon selecting Instagram DM / FB Messenger, you can set up Icebreakers for and enter up to 4 Icebreakers for configuration.

Icebreakers support localization, enabling businesses to tailor conversation starters to each user’s language, fostering a more relevant and engaging experience.

Click on “Activate” button, a prompt appears for the configuration of bot to match the Icebreakers. If you haven’t done already, you can access the bot page by clicking on “Launch Bot Portal” in the prompt and match the Icebreakers accordingly.

Then, click on “Activate” to set up Icebreakers for your account.

Steps to configure Persistent Menu:

Login to Factoreal click on Conversations → Social Conversation → Persistent Menu

You will be directed to the persistent menu configuration page, where you can select channel to configure persistent menu.

Upon selecting Instagram DM / FB Messenger, you can set up persistent menu for and enter up to 20 menu options.

Persistent menu supports localization, enabling businesses to customize options based on the user’s language. This allows you to set specific options for different languages.

Click the “Activate” button to configure the bot. If you haven’t activated it yet, the prompt will provide a “Launch Bot Portal” option. Once activated, customize the bot’s options to match your menu.

Persistent menu supports 2 types of buttons: Quick Reply & Go to URL. You are supposed to match only the Quick Reply button text in bot

Then, click on “Activate” to set up Persistent menu for your account.

Limitations:

  • A menu is not updated in real time

  • Existing conversations will not see an updated menu unless a person refreshes their inbox; new conversations will see updated menus.

Steps to configure Bot Triggers:

Login to Factoreal click on Conversations → Social Conversations→ Bot triggers

You will be directed to the bot triggers configuration page, where you can select channel to configure bot triggers.

Upon selecting Instagram DM / FB Messenger, you can enable bot triggers by selecting the account.

Click on “Save” button, a prompt appears for the configuration of bot to match the triggers. If you haven’t done already, you can access the bot page by clicking on “Launch Bot Portal” in the prompt and match the triggers accordingly.

Then, click on “Activate” to set up bot triggers for your account.
